The concept was used because they wanted a concept that not only served good drinks, but which combined this with delicious food. Pub food served at traditional gastropubs is often inspired by British cuisine. There you will find dishes such as steak and ale pie, shepherd's pie, sunday roast, fish & chips and bangers & mash. More recently, international specialties such as hamburgers, chips, lasagna and chili con carne have been added to the designation.
